I am so pleased that you got the funding, huge congratulations! Your postpartum experience sounds so so difficult, it would have been anyway, let alone with everything that came with the pandemic too. And I can feel the passion in your words, it reads like a manifesto and I am here for it! You are making a huge difference to so many women with your work, it's really inspiring. I hope in time, I can create a community of mums and make a difference to their motherhood experience. I held my first Mini Retreat for Mums on Saturday, and something that struck me is how honest and open the mums were sharing their experiences, and often just having someone listen to your experience and have it acknowledged is massive. I wonder if you find the same with the mums you see?
This is so lovely to hear ❤️ having a space where you can really share your experience and be heard is so invaluable. I host a postpartum retreat a few times a year and I’d say most of the day is spent unravelling and unpicking peoples experiences so they can put them down and move on. There’s just no space for it at all in the every day - and it’s a huge huge transition and life shift that really needs to be honoured. I’m sure the people on your retreat got so much from it 🥰
It really is, and those spaces just aren't there for mums really. It's also one of those things that you don't realise how much you needed to talk until you have that opportunity. The postpartum retreats sound wonderful - yes that's it isn't it, talking about your experience, making sense of it and being able to move on. You are right, day to day is so busy, there's no chance to properly reflect. Thank you, I hope they did! I'm looking forward to running more. X
Wonderful news on the funding! Local services like this are so lacking and much needed. As Jenna has said, your words read like a manifesto - so much strength - and we need more women like you doing this work. I’m finding it hard to connect with people offline so I’m interested to learn more about your online offerings ☺️
Sorry to hear you’re struggling offline - I think this was why I was so keen for us to have a physical space. Because having that connection can be so good but it’s so hard to build. I’ve certainly felt incredibly lonely in a room full of mothers at a baby group before.
I hope we can be a connect for you here online at least ❤️ maybe I need to bring back the Zoom circles?
My recovery has been slow so that’s a contributing factor. But there aren’t many services in my area (which I’ve only recently moved to) and those I’m interested in - like baby massage - are fully booked until next year! We start a music class next week though so despite being a tad nervous (strange as I’ve done it all before!) I’m looking forward to that. What are the circles like?
That’s always hard ❤️ my recovery was drawn out too and it definitely adds a layer. I’d be happy to chat to you about it more if you need someone to listen 🥰
I hope the music class goes well 🤞 it sounds fun
The circles are usually a couple hours long - there’s usually a theme and a guided visualisation and then a chance for each person to share what they need to ✨
